Sagar laxmi seeds Ahmadabad was established in the year 1988 as a proprietary firm for the purpose of production processing and marketing of agricultural seeds as well as parental and foundation stage seeds of different crops including vegetable crops. The research work was started for development of high yielding pests and disease resistant hybrid and varieties of different crops especially pearl-millet castor and cotton crops. Recently the company has expanded its research and development activities and includes crops such as mustard cluster beans pigeon pea and other crops. The company has the benefit of three generation of agricultural research and development work. The proprietor's grandfather Mr. V. M. Majmudar was an agricultural technocrat possessing the degree of M.Ag. of the university of Bombay. His father Dr. J. V. Majmudar is world renowned agriculture scientist. He was the father of pearl millet hybrid HB3 the first ever commercially grown bajra hybrid. The proprietor himself is a post-graduate in the disciplines of plant breeding and genetics of the Gujarat Agricultural University. To add to the expertise the company has the benefit of consultancy of Dr.R.M.Shah the retired scientist of Gujarat Agri. University who has about 35 years varied experience of plant breeding and Dr. F.P. Chaudhari the retired scientist of Dantiwada University. The company has been recognized by the Ministry of Science and Technology G.O.I. since year 2002 of in house R &D unit by the department of Scientific & Industrial Research.
