It started with an old man's desire to 'create' something. Who is this man? Born in a partition torn family with parents struggling to find a 'new' life in a 'new' india childhood was spent with seven siblings and limited resources. Early in life he must have understood he needs to work hard to create his future. He along with this three brothers started their career in business in the 70s with a retail shop in the cloth market. As the brothers believed unity could make them prosper they moved from business to business with the opportunity on the hand and the resources available. After many small ventures he got a chance to do something 'big' as a friend became partner and proposed to set up a storage water tank factory. Both of them pulled in all their finances into this venture. As a little girl i cherished the dry fruit ice-cream at the inauguration party. :-) fate had other plans soon after the factory inaugurated the partner was killed and the startup sunk without ever starting up! Silent for a while with no sigh on face he sunk up the storm in his heart without letting us being affected. Years after once he told me he did not have a 'rupee' to buy me a chocolate in those days; which i had never realized behind his calm and smiling face! Years passed and he survived doing businesses to sustain his family. Jobs were scarce in those days but more importantly his principle to work for none but own self kept him through the odds. Life had its ups and downs but his dream of 'creating' was still on. His son (nicknamed honey) grew up and was finding his footsteps in the business world. Just then he decided to 'create' again! At 61 he made honey khakhra. Working 12 hours a day 7 days a week missing lunches and sleep innumerable days he only saw his dream ahead. Inspired by his will but more…. Concerned for his health i decided to 'contribute' from miles away. I started working on digital promotion of his creation. I must admit every moment of time spent on his project has been a fulfilling achievement. Honey works relentlessly on the sales front and my sister in law helps with the flavor finalization on every new product addition. She along with mummy takes care of the household and sells the khakhras domestically. :-) honey khakhra has united us as a family in a new way. We talk more than ever before and are 5 minds working together to make this project successful. i can go on and on to describe the man behind honey khakhra but would conclude with a statement papa iterated in our growing years "believe in your hard work more than the results". Am not sure what is the journey ahead for honey khakhra but we will strive to make the breakthrough! Born with the name virbhan but more commonly known as 'virubhai'. This is the man behind honey khakhra.
