The roots of the company can be traced back to 1964. A small firm named TACO was set up as a family-run organization by a visionary entrepreneur to manufacture components for a reputed Tractor Company initially and to meet the ever growing demands of manufacturing industries in India. The company started manufacturing machine tool accessories and Reversible Tapping Attachments for drilling machines lathes and non-reversing spindles. With time and success serving as the motivator the company started exporting their products to USA and Canada. This brought further success and the group expanded itself with the formation of two more companies; namely Indmech Industrial Corporation in 1969 and IMI Machine Tools Pvt. Ltd. (IMI) in 1987.
